At Children’s Milestone, we are dedicated to enriching the lives of individuals with Autism through personalized, evidence-based services. Central to this mission are our two primary clinical roles: the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT). Read on to learn more!

The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA): Designing the Path
The BCBA therapist is the clinical lead, responsible for conducting comprehensive assessments and creating the individualized treatment plan. We gather data from observation, assessments, and parent interviews to identify goals that improve functional living and communication skills. Our BCBAs then write, monitor, and adjust the plan, ensuring all interventions are ethical and rooted in the science of behavior analysis. They also provide regular supervision and training to the RBTs.

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT): Implementing the Plan
The RBT therapist is on the front lines, delivering direct, one-on-one in-home ABA therapy sessions based on the plan designed by the BCBA. We implement the prescribed procedures, such as play-based learning or discrete trial training, with fidelity and compassion. Our primary job is to build a positive rapport with the client and collect precise data during every session. The RBT role is crucial for consistency, helping clients generalize new skills across settings and people.

The Critical Role of Comprehensive Parent Training
We view caregivers as integral partners in the therapeutic process, and our BCBAs provide comprehensive parent training as a standard part of our services. This training ensures that the skills learned in ABA therapy for autism generalize to the family’s daily life. It helps families understand and consistently apply behavioral strategies, reinforcing goal attainment outside of scheduled sessions.

Collaboration for Effective In-Home ABA Therapy
The synergy between our BCBA therapist and RBT therapist teams is what makes our in-home model so effective. The BCBA’s clinical oversight guides the RBT’s daily implementation, and the RBT’s detailed data collection informs the BCBA’s program adjustments. We meet regularly to discuss client progress and adapt strategies to meet evolving needs.

At Children’s Milestone, we are proud of the expert team of BCBAs and RBTs who work tirelessly to support our families across Maryland, DC, and Virginia. If you have questions about early signs of Autism or how to get started with ABA therapy, please contact us today.
